Tempe AZ - The Wagner College softball team (1-5) lost two games on the final day of the Arizona State Tournament Sunday afternoon. The Green & White's first loss of the day came against the University of Oregon, 3-0. The Seahawks were then blanked by Oregon's fellow Pac 10 member Stanford, losing by a 12-0 count to the Cardinal.
The Pac 10 is traditionally one of the top collegiate softball conferences in the nation as it placed three teams in last year's College World Series, including last year's National Champion Arizona State.
In game one against Oregon, the Ducks notched two first-inning runs to take the early lead. Oregon tacked on one more run in the bottom of the second inning en route to the 3-0 victory.
On the mound,
Kate Eshelman (Reno, NV / McQueen) hurled 4.0 innings and recorded three strikeouts. The senior also allowed three runs and five hits.
In the Seahawks' second game,Stanford blanked the Green & White 12-0, putting a six-spot on the scoreboard in both the second and third innings.
Kaelynn Armenta (Whittier, CA / Paul HS) gained the start, pitching 2.0 innings with two strikeouts. while allowing five earned runs on eight hits. She was relieved by junior
Danielle Wagoner (Temecula, CA / Temecula Valley), who pitched the final 2.0 innings. Wagoner fanned one batter while allowing two earned runs on six hits.
Wagner returns to action March 14-21 when the Seahawks travel to Orlando, FL to compete in the Rebel games. The Green & White will face 15 teams in the grueling seven-day tournament. Last season, the Seahawks finished with a solid 8-5 record at the games.
