Somerset, NJ – Junior DB #Frantz Placide3 (Miami, FL/ Archbishop Curley Notre Dame) was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Special Teams Player of the Week for the fourth time this season for his efforts vs. Albany last week.
Placide closed his season just as he opened it, turning in a remarkable special teams effort that included a kickoff return for a touchdown. The 6-2, 205-pound Placide's 89-yard kickoff return in the second quarter of Saturday's season finale against Albany matches the one he had on opening day vs. Stonehill.
Despite Placide's efforts, Wagner ended up on the short end of a 41-28 decision to the Great Danes, finishing the season with a 6-5 overall record and a 5-3 mark in the NEC, which placed the Seahawks in a tie for third place in the league.
Placide, who also stuffed a punt and recovered an onsides kick in the season opener, blocked two punts against Albany. After a Vinny Esposito touchdown pass increased the Great Danes lead to 21-7 with 4:53 remaining in the second quarter, Placide immediately answered by taking the ensuing kickoff back for six points. His efforts on punt blocks twice gave Wagner a short field in the second half. Winning his NEC-high fourth Special Teams Player of the Week award, Placide unseated RMU kicker Garrett Clawson who earned the honor for three consecutive weeks.
Placide's honor mark the 12th time this season a Seahawk has picked up a weekly honor from the NEC this season. In addition to Placide's four Special Teams Awards, freshman QB
Nick Doscher (Staten Island, NY/ Moore Catholic) has earned five NEC Rookie of the Week honors and one Offensive player of the Week award. Freshman RB
Dominique Williams (Bridgeton, NJ/Milford) has picked up one NEC Rookie of the Week Award, while junior DB
Chaz Legette (Syracuse, NY/ Nottingham) has earned one NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor.
