Tara Maguire has the distinction of being the greatest women's distance runner in Wagner history and one of the best to ever compete for a Northeast Conference (NEC) school. Throughout her days as a Seahawk, which spanned from 1987-1991, Maguire's name was synonymous with running success. Whatever the season, whether it was cross country, indoor or outdoor track, the one constant during this time period was the sight of Maguire arriving first at the finish line. Her list of accomplishments is staggering: NEC cross country champion in 1987, 1988 and 1990; 1991 ECAC indoor track champion in the 5000-meter run (16:34.03). In 1991, she became Wagner's first Division I National Qualifier and competed in Eugene, Oregon with a time of 16:21.68 in the Outdoor 5,000-meter run. Today, almost 20 years after her graduation, Maguire remains the school record-holder in the Indoor 1500-meters (4:37.22), Indoor Mile (4:59.77), Indoor 3000-meters (9:32.88), Indoor 5000-meters (16:34.03), Outdoor 1500-meters (4:31.15), Outdoor 3000-meters (9:35.97) and the Outdoor 5000-meters (16:21.68). Maguire won the 1991 Raleigh Relays in the 5000 meters and finished third at the 1991 Penn Relays in the 5000 meters. Following her graduation, Maguire has kept right on running, winning three Masters National Champion Indoor mile events. In 2003, she was named "Runner of the Year" in the 30-39 age group by the New York Road Runners and finished third in the 2005 Westchester Marathon with a time of 3:11.27. Maguire is employed as an executive by Pepsi-Cola North America.
