Neil Leonard was prototype running back in Wagner Hall of Fame coach Jim Lee Howell’s backfield in the early 1950’s. The first player to record 1,000 rushing yards in a career, he achieved the feat in the 1951 season. The team’s MVP in both the 1951 and 1952 seasons, Leonard won the James Robb Memorial Trophy in 1951 after scoring three touchdowns. He was also a fixture behind the plate for the Seahawk’s baseball team and was named MVP his sophomore season. Leonard was presented with the Holter Key Award during his graduation. Following graduation, Leonard worked 27 years for the New York Times Promotion Department.
