One of the top baseball players in school history Michael Taylor was a standout for Wagner for three years from 1981-1983 for coach Larry Anderson. As a freshman, he was named ECAC Player of the Year and was a member of the All Metro All-Star team in 1981 while helping the Seahawks to a then school-record 20 wins. Again, in 1983 he made the All Metro All-Star team and was honored as an Atlantic Coast Summer League All-Star. For his Wagner career he batted a blistering .332 (124-374) with 17 home runs, 87 RBI, 97 runs, 23 doubles and 25 stolen bases over three years. Following his junior year, he went pro as the Chicago White Sox drafted Taylor in the 20th round of the 1983 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Throughout his professional career, he was named TOPPS Baseball Card Rookie League All Star, Gulf Coast League All Star, Midwest League All Star and Team MVP. Taylor advanced to the precipice of the Major Leagues, playing his final season of pro ball in 1987 for Hawaii in the Triple A Pacific Coast League. Taylor later shared his talents, contributing his time as a scout and Manager of the Marshall Mallards and the Will County Claws in the Independent Professional league in Illinois. In addition to being an inductee of the Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) Hall of Fame, he later became director of Baseball Operations of the North Central League. Taylor lives in Albany, NY and is employed by the Albany Human Resources as an Employment and Training Specialist.
