John Franco (1980-1983) is regarded as one of the best running backs in school history despite playing in the shadow of Wagner Hall of Famer Alonzo Patterson for most of his career. In his four years, he helped the Seahawks to a 33-6-2 record. As a senior, in 1983, he led the nation in rushing with 1,166 yards and was named a First-Team All American, All-ECAC.
 
He also averaged an astonishing 145 yards per game as Wagner went 8-2-1 in the year following the graduation of Patterson, who was the all-time leading rusher in school history.. Franco was granted the Bucks County (PA) Courier Times Award for Outstanding Achievement.
