Jimmy Nix (1976-1979) was a four-year standout in the Seahawk defensive backfield, capping his career by earning Little College All-American honors from the Associated Press in 1979 when he set the Wagner single-season record with 10 interceptions. On October 20, 1979, he recorded a school-record with three interceptions to help preserve a 19-14 victory at Seton Hall His 18 career interceptions still rank No. 2 on the all-time list. A top safety, equally adept against the pass and the run, Nix played a relentless, aggressive, and productive brand of football while playing through a series of leg injuries. As a senior in 1979, the Ridgewood, NJ native served as a co-captain for the Seahawks. “As the head coach, when establishing our program for its future success, we needed the building blocks of tough, hard-nosed, selfless players who put team goals ahead of all else. Jim Nix was the epitome of one of those young men,” said his head coach Bill Russo. “The wonderful bonus was he was a singular talent in our secondary, with a knack of playing at a high level and motivating those around him to become better by his example.”
