Spearheading the Wagner defense for his four years in Staten Island, Balina ranks 4th all-time in total tackles with 351, was a team captain his senior year in 2002, and was a two-time Don Hansen's All-American selection. Cumulatively, Balina's statline includes 41 games played, 351 tackles (146 solo), 8 interceptions, and 15 sacks. Of those 15 sacks, 5 came in 2001 which was tied for the team lead and ninth in the conference. In 2001 and 2002, he was named to the All-NEC second team. In 2002, he was first on the team and third in the conference in tackles with 116, 50 of which were solo tackles. In 2001, he was first on the team and fourth in the conference in tackles with 92, 41 of which were solo tackles. In 2000, he led the Northeast Conference with six passes broken up.
