A four-sport athlete at Wagner, Gus Kiefer (1925-1928) particularly excelled on the football field and basketball court. Kiefer played on the first varsity football team in Wagner College history in 1927 and was the first former Seahawk player to play for a professional football team.
On the court, Kiefer scored 298 points in his three-year career and captained the 1928 team. In addition to playing football and basketball, the late Kiefer participated in baseball and track & field, breaking the high jump record in 1927 with a jump of 5'3."
