Wagner College Athletics

Since graduating from Wagner College in 1964, Fred Williamson (‘64, H’11) has been a constant presence within the Seahawk Athletic Department, contributing to his alma mater as a passionate supporter, and as a leader of various committees and boards. The Red Bank, NJ native was a three-year football letterwinner and captain of the 1963 team, in addition to competing on the Seahawks’ Track & Field team. Following his graduation, he served his country during a two-year tour of duty in Vietnam, and received two silver stars for “conspicuous gallantry” and “bravery in action”, and a Purple Heart for wounds received in battle. His final rank was Captain, Rifle Company. Because of his bravery, he was honored at Wagner’s 1966 Homecoming with the Alumni Special Recognition Award while he was on military leave. For more than 20 years, Williamson served as a Wagner Board of Trustee Member, including a stint as Chair of the Athletics Committee. He also served as vice chair of the Wagner Audit Committee and as a member of the Investment and Business & Finance Committees. From 1990-1996, he served as head of the National Alumni Association and in 2004, was honored with the inaugural Kevin Sheehy NAA Alumni Leadership Medal, which presented to an individual who has demonstrated leadership and service to the Wagner College Alumni Association. Williamson has also been a financial contributor to a variety of programs and causes, including Football, Men’s Basketball, Track & Field, the Sal Alberti Golf Classic, the Stadium Lights Project and the Gregory P. Knapp ‘65 Strength Room. He has been heavily involved in the Seahawk and Touchdown Clubs and is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa. On May 20, 2011, during Wagner College’s commencement exercise, he was awarded the degree of doctor of humane letters.
