Courtney Pritchard was the prototypical floor-general that helped guide Wagner to the 2002-03 Northeast Conference (NEC) men’s basketball championship. Under the tutelage of head coach and fellow Wagner Hall of Famer Dereck Whittenburg,
Pritchard led the Seahawks to a 69-50 record during his four-year playing career. The Southampton, NY native ranks among the top-30 scorers in program history, amassing 1,147 career points. He is second on the all-time career assists list with 563 and averaged close to 5.0 helpers a game over his career. Pritchard was an imposing threat on the defensive end, finishing among the top-10 all-time with 183 career steals.
As a freshman, he appeared in 28 games, averaging 10.7 points per game, 4.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals a game, which earned him a spot on the All-NEC Rookie Team. As a sophomore, he shifted to a more defensive-minded style, as he captured the 2001-02 NEC Defensive Player of the Year award, where he averaged he averaged 1.9 steals in 25 games.
During Wagner’s run to the league title in 2002-03, Pritchard was third in the conference in assists, averaging 4.97 a game while swiping away close to 2.0 steals a contest, which was good for fourth in the circuit and finished among the top-10 in assist/turnovers.
Pritchard remains a fixture on the Wagner single-season list, as he is among the top-10 in steals (63) and assists (159).
