Charles Gruber (1969-1972) was a two-sport athlete at Wagner, starring on the gridiron as well as on the wrestling mat. From his position on the offensive line, Gruber was an anchor for the Seahawk football squads of the late sixties and early seventies. During his well decorated career, he was voted an ECAC and Associated Press All-East Offensive Guard in 1970 and 1971. Gruber was also picked for the All Lutheran team in 1970 and 1971 and received honorable mention Little All American honors in 1971. Long-time
Staten Island Advance football beat reporter, Jack Minogue maintains that Gruber is one of the top three offensive guards he has ever seen.
As a member of the wrestling team, Gruber finished second and third respectively at the ECAC Championships in 1971 and 1972, when he was named the Wagner MVP. Rounding out his athletic achievements, he was named Wagner's All Sport Outstanding Athlete for the class of 1972.
