Women’s Lacrosse Falls To UMBC 16-3

The UMBC women's lacrosse team defeated Wagner 16-3 behind four goals apiece by Alyssa Semones and Abby Wilson while Shannon Harkey and Jordan Lyons each scored three goals for the Retrievers.

Wagner's three goals were registered by a trio of freshmen in Casey McCarthy (Cypres, TX/ Cy-Fair), Kimmy Tumolo (Mullica Hill, NJ/ Clearview) and Stephanie Peterson (Vernon, NJ/ Vernon Township). Sophomore Jessica Mills (Vernon, NJ/ Vernon Township) added an assist for the Seahawks.

UMBC, which improved to 6-2 on the season, raced out to an 8-0 lead before Mills found Peterson, her former high school teammate, for a goal with 6:10 left in the opening half. The Retrievers led 10-1 at halftime and built the lead to 15-1 before consecutive goals by McCarthy and Tumolo made it 15-3. Harkey capped the day's scoring with a tally with 2:30 left for UMBC to fashion the final score at 16-3.

UMBC outshot Wagner 33-10 led in ground balls 14-10 while winning 14-of-21 draw controls.

The Seahawks, who fall to 4-4, now begin Northeast Conference play by taking to the road this weekend, with contests at Mount St. Mary's on Friday, March 22 at 4:00 pm. and at Monmouth on Sunday, March 24 at 1:00 pm.
