Seahawk Defense, QB Doscher Receive National Recognition

Staten Island, NY – The stingy Wagner defense was recognized by Beyond College Sports Network as the nation's “Defense of the Week” while senior quarterback Nick Doscher (Staten Island, NY/ Moore Catholic), was tabbed as a College Sporting News National All-Star, for their roles in spearheading the Seahawks' dominating 30-0 victory at No. 18 Albany on Saturday.

In registering a shutout of an Albany team that entered the game tops in the Northeast Conference (NEC) in scoring (34.2 points) and total offense (370.3 yards), the Green & White defense cemented its reputation as the league's best while moving up in several categories nationally.

The Wagner defense, which held the Great Daynes to 188 yards of Offense (85 rushing, 103 passing), now ranks No. 4 in scoring defense (14.67 points per game), No. 6 in pass defense (157.44 ypg), and No. 21 in pass efficiency defense (113.96 ypg).

Defensively, the Seahawks have four player, all seniors, among the top 20 tacklers per game in the NEC in linebacker #C.O. Prime# (Laval, Quebec/ Montreal)(12th-7.3), free safety Patrick O'Connor (Leominster, MA/ Leominster) (T-15th-6.9), linebacker Mike Lombardo (Jupiter, FL/ Jupiter Christian), and strong safety Sidiq Soulemana (19th-6.).

Doscher, who also picked up his fourth NEC Offensive Player of the Week Award career and second of the season following the Albany win, has been named a College Sporting News FCS National this week All Star along with Tennessee-Martin senior quarterback Derek Carr, Central Arkansas junior quarterback Wynrick Smother, Montana State junior linebacker Na'a Moeakiola and South Dakota State freshman linebacker T.J. Lally.

The 6-2, 225-pound Doscher's 285 yards of total offense catapulted the Seahawks into first place in the NEC standings as well as the inside track in the race for the conference's automatic NCAA FCS playoff bid.

Spearheading his remarkable eighth consecutive turnover-free showing, Doscher was an efficient 10-of-15 passing for 253 yards and two touchdowns as Wagner won its sixth straight NEC game, for the first time since the league was formed in 1996.
In guiding the Seahawks to victory, Doscher turned in yet another interception-free game against Albany. His 15 attempts make it 143 consecutive passes without an interception over a span of 8.5 games (19 consecutive quarters) as Doscher has not thrown an interception since the first half of the season opener at Florida Atlantic on August 31.

Ranked No. 9 on the Seahawk all-time rushing list with 2,013 yards, and number one among quarterbacks, Doscher carried the ball 10 times for 32 yards as the Green & White posted their first victory cover Albany since the 2000 season.
