Stanford Earns CollegeFootballPerformance.com Honor For Effort Vs. CCSU

Staten Island, NY – Senior outside linebacker Julian Stanford (Bloomfield, CT/ Bloomfield) has been recognized by CollegeFootballPerformance.com as an Honorable Mention Linebacker Performer of the Week for his efforts in Wagner's 28-24 loss to Northeast Conference (NEC) preseason favorite Central Connecticut St. on Saturday.

A Preseason NEC selection and a Second-Team All-NEC choice last season, Stanford made a number of big plays on Saturday, none bigger than a late second quarter interception. With Wagner trailing 14-0 and in desperate need of a spark, the Seahawks got one when Stanford made an athletic, acrobatic, one-handed pick and returned it 12 yards to give Wagner excellent field position at its own 49-yard line. The INT led to a 51-yard scoring drive that pulled Wagner to within 14-7 and gained the Seahawks momentum heading into halftime.

Stanford totaled seven tackles on the afternoon, including an eight-yard sack and the one interception, which was the first of his career. For the season, Stanford leads the Seahawks with 4.5 tackles for loss (minus 24 yards) and 2.5 sacks (minus 18 yards).

CollegeFootballPerformance.com provides the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football as recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

The Seahawks take to the road for the first of two consecutive away contests. Wagner travels to NEC for Bryant on September 24 before playing at Cornell of the Ivy League on October 1.
