Wagner Drops 65-58 Overtime Decision To St. Francis (NY)

Wagner dropped a 65-58 overtime decision to St. Francis (NY) in Northeast Conference action at the Spiro Sports Center. The Seahawks are now 4-8 and 0-2 in the NEC while the Terriers are 2-11 and 1-2 in the NEC.

Despite the loss Wagner did force 31 turnovers while outrebounding St. Francis (NY) 46-44, including 19-8 on the offensive end. Unfortunately, the Seahawks shot just 28.6 percent from the floor, including 23.5 percent from beyond the arc. The Terriers were not much better hitting on just 37.5 percent, including 29.4 percent from the three point land.

Junior Andrea Reed (Pocomoke City, MD / Pocomoke) led Wagner recording team-bests with 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals in 39 minutes. Sophomore Ashley Olsen (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) chipped in with 13 points and six rebounds in 43 minutes of action.

Kara Ayers scored a game-high 29 points with six rebounds while Kendra Williams scored 10 points while pulling down seven rebounds to lead St. Francis (NY).

Trailing 47-40 with just 4:12 remaining in the second half, Reed scored five-straight points to cut the deficit to 47-45 with 2:27 to go. After Kara Ayers split a pair from the line Olsen tied it up at 48-48 with an old-fashioned three-point play with 1:20 to send the game into overtime.

In the extra session, St. Francis (NY) scored the first seven points to take a commanding 55-48 lead with 3:21 remaining. Wagner would cut it to four on three occasions but was unable to get any closer, falling 65-58.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair that featured 11 lead changes and four ties. Both teams shot the ball well with the Terriers hitting on 47.8 percent of its shots (11-23), including 44.4 percent from beyond the arc (4-9). The Seahawks shot 37.9 percent and dominated the glass 20-14, including 8-1 on the offensive end.
